Ānankū (アーナンクー) is a kata passed down by Nagamine Shōshin. It is practiced in Matsubayashi-ryū.
This kata is not to be confused with the identically named Ānankū of other Kyan-descent lineages (see Ānankū (Kyan)).

Ānankū (アーナンクウ)
Ānankū is said to have been brought to Okinawa from Taiwan by Kyan Chōtoku. However, the Ānankū practiced in Matsubayashi-ryū is significantly different from the Ānankū practiced in other lineages, which has led historians to suspect that Nagamine’s Ānankū may have a different origin.
Nagamine’s Ānankū follows a significantly different pattern than Kyan’s Ānankū as seen in other lineages. It is sometimes proposed that this Ānankū was created by Nagamine Shōshin himself as a teaching kata, as it contains many elements from other kata in the system such as Naifanchin (see Naifanchin), Wankan (see Wankan), Chintō (see Chintō), and Passai (see Passai). It is also possible that Kyan simply taught several versions of what he would call Ānankū.
